Since 1990, Michael has starred in 11 plays, among them "The Three Penny Opera," "Richard III," "Cabaret" and "Hamlet," and directed nine productions, including "The Merchant of Venice," "Lysistrata" (which he adapted himself), "Macbeth," "Cabaret," "Romeo and Juliet," "Hamlet" and "Othello." In 1993 he wrote, directed and starred in "Jack and the Beanstalk," a children's pantomime now being performed throughout.New Zealand. He also starred in the feature films "Footstep Man" and "Desperate Remedies," co-wrote and directed the short film "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," and did guest-starring roles in such television productions as the "Ray Bradbury Theatre" and "Typhon's People."
Michael is married to noted New Zealand actress Jennifer Ward-Lealand and the couple make their home in Grey Lynn, Auckland.
